RDCIS Ranchi is developing a low weight steel cylinder. The company is working on a plan to develop boron steel, which can be used by oil companies for filling up LPG. The company is going to approach the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for revised specifications regarding use of steel in LPG Cylinders. It can be used in other items too. Getting quality testing services is a complicated exercise. Test results many times depends on the Integrity of the testing personnel and the organization performing the functions. Getting / assigning any quality control test is now a days very easy. But assuring the results reliability is still a question in the customers.This may be a chemical analysis test, metallurgical tests, mechanical tests or even nondestructive tests (NDT)/ inspection. Particularly in NDT,for many NDT Inspection tests like ultrasonic testing (flaw detection / thickness gauging), Magnetic particle inspection, Liquid penetrant testing, Dye penetrant testing (DPT) permanent records are not reliable and maynot be correlated with the part tested. Since this possible, many inspections become easier and less time consuming (i.e. scan time reduction). 4) Phased array Ultrasonic testing provides the ability to cover more area with the detectability of a probe with smaller elements. Consider the reduced sensitivity to small defects you see when using large single element or paintbrush probes.
